Following last week’s court order from the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), over Musk stealing X (formerly Twitter) user's data to train his AI model, Grok, without their consent, privacy campaign group NOYB (None Of Your Business) has raised nine complaints with the data authorities across nine European countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain), for the same thing.
NOYB has accused Musk of “irreversibly feeding” data from over 60M EU X users into Grok, “without ever informing them or asking for their consent”, and slammed the social media platform for “never proactively informing” its users that their data was being used for AI training purposes. Even though Musk has agreed to temporarily suspend collecting consensual X user data, following the DPC order last week, NYOB remains concerned about what will happen with the data that has already been fed into Grok. They’ve called for a “full investigation” and an “urgency procedure,” which will allow the nine data authorities to take swift action, criticizing the DPC for failing to “question the legality” of Musk's actions, and not tackling the core of the problem.
