Our Report: Apple is kicking off its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) this morning, 10th June—with the main keynote starting at 10 am PT (1 pm ET)—and is expected to reveal some major software and AI updates.
🔑 Key Points:
It’s rumored that Apple plans to launch its suite of new AI features, under the umbrella name “Apple Intelligence”, which will be incorporated throughout its apps and platforms.
Apple’s partnership with OpenAI will likely be confirmed (which could bring a ChatGPT bot to Apple devices), and AI updates to Siri, which will improve its capabilities, are also expected.
But the launch of iOS18 is the most highly anticipated update, which could bring multiple AI features to Apple devices, like auto-email and text replies, emoji generation, and photo editing tools.
🤔 Why you should care: Apple’s WWDC follows Google and Microsoft's developer conferences, where some major AI updates were announced, so this year’s WWDC is key for Apple CEO, Time Cook, as he fights to regain a foothold in the AI race.

Our Report: Following last week's reports that its new feature–Recall–was a “security disaster”, Microsoft has announced they’re making some changes to address these security concerns.
🔑 Key Points:
Recall captures and stores screenshots of a user’s screen every few seconds, and uses AI to analyze and create a “photographic memory” making everything easily searchable.
Security experts issued warnings that with Recall (enabled by default on Copilot+ PCs), hackers could now steal “everything you’ve ever typed or viewed on your own PC.”
In response, Recall will be disabled by default, screenshots will be locked behind facial recognition or fingerprint scans, and screenshots and the search index database will be encrypted.
🤔 Why you should care: While Microsoft is taking steps to protect users in response to user feedback about Recall, questions are being asked about how useful this feature will be, and whether it would be better if Microsoft just developed a better way of searching Windows.

Our Report: AI search engine, Perplexity AI’s, new feature “Perplexity Pages” (which summarizes content from content across the web in a magazine-like layout) has been slammed for giving minimum attribution to the publisher or author of the original content.
🔑 Key Points:
Perplexity has been using exclusive reporting, from behind paywalls, but only referencing and linking to the publications in the footnotes, which is easy for users to miss.
A Forbes editor discovered similarities between a summary provided by Perplexity AI and a Forbes article, claiming it “rips off” investigative journalism and doesn’t “bother to name us.”
In response, Perplexity CEO—Aravind Srinivas—agreed with the feedback, but said the new feature was still new and had a few “rough edges”, but that it would improve with time.
🤔 Why you should care: This is the latest example of the increasing tension between journalists and news outlets who are blasting AI companies, for using their work, but refusing to attribute or compensate them for it.
Our Report: Google is developing a tool that will give users the ability to text 911, in an emergency, using RCS (Rich Communication Services).
🔑 Key Points:
RCS uses data and Wi-Fi (rather than relying on cellular networks) to enable users to send their precise locations and high-res images and videos to emergency responders.
Google will partner with RapidSOS (which is used by over 15,000 emergency agencies) to build the feature and relay information like age, weight, and allergies to first responders.
The feature will be available to Android US users, in areas that don’t support its test-to-911 feature, from the Winter, with rollouts to other regions and countries expected next year.
🤔 Why you should care: The timing of this announcement comes as Apple prepares to kickstart its annual developer conference, with rumors that it will also announce RCS support for iOS 18.
