📉 AMD dropped over 10% and NVIDIA lost 6.5% in Wednesday’s trading session. NVIDIA is at a technical support area, where the price rebounded on the previous retracement. If the overall uptrend is to continue this is a valid area to expect buyers to step in. However, if this area is broken, the price can continue to fall. Learn more.
Our Report: Computer scientist, Fei-Fei Li (dubbed the “Godmother of AI” thanks to her contributions to computer vision, enabling machines to understand and interpret visual data) launched an AI start-up (called World Labs) four months ago, that’s now worth over $1B.
🔑Key Points:
World Labs is developing a model capable of enhanced reasoning and processing of visual data with human-like understanding, allowing it to comprehend object dimensions, where they are, and what they’re doing.
Li doesn’t just want “AI that can see and talk” she wants “AI that can do", and these developments could enable robots to navigate physical spaces more efficiently, transforming industries like healthcare and manufacturing.
Since she founded the start-up (in April), Li has completed 2 funding rounds, most recently raising $100M in a round led by high-profile investors, including A16z and AI fund, ‘Radical Ventures’.
🤔Why you should care: With AI start-ups in the US securing over $27B (about half of all start-up funding) in the last 3 months, this $100M funding in World Labs and its $1B valuation (after just 4 months), reflects a growing trend among VCs to align with highly-ambitious AI-driven start-ups, perhaps spurred on by the surprise—and rapid—success of OpenAI, which exceeded a valuation of over $80B in just 10 months.

Our Report: VC firm, Menlo Ventures (one of the biggest investors in AI), and AI start-up Anthropic (makers of ChaGPT rival, Claude) have launched a $100M AI fund—called The Anthology Fund—to back early-stage AI start-ups.
🔑Key Points:
Menlo will write the cheques (starting at $100,000), while Anthropic will give successful start-ups $25,000 worth of credits to use its models and offer coaching, meetups, and a “batphone” hotline to the company.
The Anthology Fund is now accepting online applications, which will be scored, ranked, and assessed by Menlo’s in-house ML tool, although the due diligence is expected to be more “lightweight” than usual.
Menlo will support subsequent funding rounds, raised by Anthology-backed start-ups, and although Anthropic will not get a monetary stake in the start-ups, working with them will allow it to improve its products.
🤔Why you should care: Anthropic and Menlo have modeled The Anthology Fund on the iFund—a partnership between Apple and VC firm, Kleiner Perkins, that started with $100M and doubled to $200M in just 2 years—because it “gave Apple a lens into a whole set of early developers, and what they need to be more attentive to.”

To combat the 245% global increase in deepfakes, which is hitting corporates especially hard (10% have reported deepfake-aided fraud) deepfake-detecting firm, Pindrop, has secured a $100M loan.
The five-year loan—from Hercules Capital—will be used for hiring and to further develop its deepfake-combating and multi-factor authentication products, allowing it into new sectors like healthcare, retail, and travel.
Pindrop founder, Vijay Balasubramaniyan, wants to expand into “countries with significant deepfake threats” as it’s uniquely “positioned to help companies protect themselves and their consumers from deepfake threats.”
Microsoft’s AI-powered, Canva-like, “Designer” app (initially launched last year, in preview) is now available to all users on iOS and Android, as a mobile or Windows app, in over 80 languages.
The app allows users to generate designs using text prompts (prompt templates are available) to create emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars, stickers, greeting cards, invitations, and collages.
Users can also edit and restyle images (like selfies), using AI, and, in the coming months, the tool will have a “replace background” feature, which will transform image backgrounds, using text prompts.
