🦾 AI stocks soared with NVIDIA and Tesla outperforming the broader market. It seems last week’s sudden drop was a motivator for long-term buyers with the uptrend looking likely to continue, despite recession fears. Learn more.
Our Report: Along with the launch of its new Pixel 9 series—which has built-in AI features (powered by Google’s Large Language Model, Gemini) including call summaries, searchable screenshots, weather summaries, and a photo reimagining tool—Google launched ‘Gemini Live’, a new voice chat feature (available now, to all Gemini Advanced users) that rivals ChatGPT’s ‘Advanced Voice Mode’, which was launched in May, to a small set of users.
🔑 Key Points:
Gemini Live responds to questions, pivots when interrupted, pauses chats, and remembers previous conversations, naturally, without any button activation, allowing for more natural-flowing conversation.
Users can choose from 10 voices (ChatGPT has 3), which Google has worked with actors to create, but it will not mimic voices outside of these (Google has no doubt learned from OpenAI’s mistake with Scarlett Johansson).
Although there are clear similarities between Gemini Live and ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, Google Live can’t understand emotional intonation in chats yet, something that OpenAI has already demonstrated.
🤔 Why you should care: Google first announced the AI-powered voice feature was coming, during its I/O conference in May, where it said the feature would also come with real-time video understanding, allowing users to use their camera to complete tasks, but this hasn’t yet materialized.

Our Report: Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has launched two upgraded versions of its chatbot, Grok—Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini—calling it “a significant step forward from Grok-1.5” (which was launched a few months ago), with a redesigned interface, improved reasoning, and a new image generation feature for X (formerly Twitter) users.
🔑 Key Points:
Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini have been launched in beta—so they’re just available to Premium and Premium+ X users—but there are plans to make both models available to developers, later this month.
Early testers have confirmed that Grok-2 is better at code generation, writing, and summarizing news, and benchmark tests show that it excels at mathematical understanding and reading comprehension.
Once out of beta, xAI will integrate Grok-2 into the AI-powered features on X to improve search capabilities, post analytics, and reply functionality, hinting that AI-powered replies might be on the cards.
🤔 Why you should care: While Grok-2 has received positive feedback, from early testers, on its ability to generate text, code, and news summaries, many are concerned that the image generation tool doesn’t indicate that the image has been generated with AI, and doesn’t have many guardrails and restrictions in place, leaving users able to generate images of political figures, which, as the US elections loom, could lead to the damaging spread of misinformation.

OpenAI has released an updated version of SWE-bench—a test that examines an AI system's ability to solve software issues—to improve the evaluation of an AI model's ability to solve real-life software problems.
The new version—SWE-bench Verified—was created in conjunction with the original creators of the test, and focuses on giving more precise insights into the strengths and limitations of AI models in real-world scenarios.
This release could accelerate the development of more AI models, built to complete software engineering tasks and lead to improvements in AI capability to create code, bugfix, and solve problems.
A proposed Califonia bill—SB 1047—which has been designed to prevent AI models from causing “critical harm” against humanity, is headed for a final vote this month, but most of Silicon Valley is opposed to it.
SB 1047 would just apply to the world’s biggest AI models and includes protocols to prevent the misuse of AI, including an “emergency stop button” that shuts the model down, advanced testing, and 3rd party audits.
While the bill is an attempt to “learn from past policy failures” and “protect citizens before it’s too late”, many think it will burden startups because of its “arbitrary and shifting thresholds” and will “harm our budding AI ecosystem.”
