FACT OF THE DAY
🤔 According to snapLogic, 51% of employees believe AI helps them achieve a better work-life balance because it helps them complete their work tasks faster, allowing them to spend more with family and friends.
🔽 Thursday's trading session saw the whole market head to the downside. The S&P 500 dropped 1.86% and the Nasdaq even further, losing 2.52%. Investors are playing defense with the election date around the corner and traders. Microsoft was the biggest loser on the day, falling over 6%, after posting record sign-up numbers to their subscription service, driven by the release of the latest “Call of Duty” game. Learn more.
Our Report: OpenAI has launched a ramped-up version of ChatGPT Search for paying subscribers—after initially launching a prototype to 10,000 testers in July (and aggressively trying to poach Google engineers for its own search team)—which is built into the ChatGPT platform and will serve up information from the web, such as sports scores, news, and stock updates, giving users real-time answers to search queries.
🔑 Key Points:
ChatGPT Search (powered by a “fine-tuned” GPT-4o) will let users search manually, or serve up answers to search queries—alongside a sidebar with links to relevant websites—allowing users to ask follow-up questions.
Example: If asked for “Italian restaurants in New York” it will return a map with dropped pins, recommending restaurants, and can also narrow the search down, if a user asks a follow-up question, like “find a more casual one.”
OpenAI will ensure accuracy around election time by directing election queries to sources like AP and Reuters and it’s also planning to integrate the new search functionality into its Advanced Voice Mode feature.
🤔 Why you should care: OpenAI has publicly stated that it has “no plans for ads" with ChatGPT Search, which could make it a more attractive search option than Google—which is cluttered with ads and ‘sponsored’ content—with users already choosing to use ChatGPT over Google as the responses are more direct, and to-the-point, but AI-powered search is expensive to run (think of the amount of compute power needed), and OpenAI has committed to tripling its revenue by 2025 to appease investors after its record-breaking funding round, so it remains to be seen how it will run the feature for non-paying users: Could they limit their use of the feature perhaps? Watch this space, and in the meantime, let the battle between Google and OpenAI commence!

Our Story: US Google Maps users are about to get some big new AI features—powered by Gemini—to help them drive in new locations, find parking spaces, discover new places to visit, and ask questions about different locations.
Key Points:
With its new AI navigation features, Google Maps will now show which lane to be in and where crosswalks and road signs are to help drivers navigate in unfamiliar places with multiple lanes, forks, and exits.
To make it easier to explore new places, Google Maps will display landmarks, scenic spots, and dining options once a destination has been entered, and it will curate a list of bespoke places to go, based on a user query.
Users will also see nearby parking lots, parking space reminders, weather-based road disruptions, and AI-generated user review summaries, and they can ask follow-up questions about a place.
Why you should care: Google is clearly rattled by the advanced AI features that rivals like Apple Maps and other navigation startups are launching, not to mention the potential fall from grace that ChatGPT Search is threatening its mammoth search engine status, so is this why it’s ramping up its AI capabilities, to cling onto diminishing market share?

Meta is working with sensor firm—GelSight—and Robotics company—Wonkik Robotics—to create an artificial fingertip with “human-level” touch capabilities that can touch, feel, and respond to things like a needle prick.
Calling it the ‘Digit 360’, Meta isn’t planning to release this to consumers, it’s for scientists to help them advance research into AI that can “better understand and model the physical world.”
Digit 360 digitizes touch signals, using AI chips and around 18 sensing features, as each touch interaction has “a unique profile produced by the mechanical, geometrical, and chemical properties of a surface.”
Amazon's CEO, Andy Jassy, revealed his belief that AI assistants, like Alexa, will not just answer questions and summarize data, but will also complete tasks, perhaps hinting at an agentic future for the new Alexa.
Originally planned to launch in October, the newly improved Alexa, codenamed “Remarkable Alexa”—which has a “rearchitected brain” with new “foundation models”—has been hit with delay rumors.
This could be because it's replacing its own models with Anthropic’s (due to technical challenges), but if rumors are true, the new version can't even turn on lights yet, and takes up to six seconds to respond to queries.
