Our Report: One month after quitting OpenAI over security concerns, OpenAI’s former chief scientist (Ilya Sutskever) has launched a new AI company—Safe Superintelligence Inc (SSI)—which is hyper-focused on safety.
🔑 Key Points:
Sutskever, with co-founders Daniel Gross (ex-Apple engineer) and Daniel Levy (ex-OpenAI engineer), revealed that SSI has just “one goal and one product” and will prioritize safety over ‘commercial pressures.’
Built from the ground up as a ‘for-profit entity’, it will approach “safety and capabilities in tandem” to quickly advance SSI’s first product, which will be a safe superintelligence system.
Its singular focus means it can prevent interruption “by management and product cycles”, meaning “safety, security, and progress are insulated from commercial pressures”, so it can “scale in peace.”
🤔 Why you should care: The launch of SSI should come as no great surprise, as Sutskever left OpenAI (which he co-founded), after a bitter disagreement with its management over the prioritization of safety, something he’s always strongly advocated, after previously warning that “AI with intelligence superior to humans could arrive within the decade, and that when it does, it will not necessarily be benevolent” emphasizing the desperate need for “research into ways to control and restrict it.”

Our Report: Snapchat unveiled an early version of its upcoming on-device image AI model at the Augmented World Expo this week, which can generate AR experiences, in real-time.
🔑 Key Points:
The new ‘Lens’ feature will enable users to use text prompts to change their surroundings and clothing, eg. typing "50s sci-fi film" will create a custom lens with 50’s-style clothing and background
Snapchat users will be able to see and use pre-built ‘Lenses’ in the coming months, but creators will be able to use this model to develop their own, custom lenses by the end of the year.
Snapchat also launched Lens Studio 5.0 which will give developers access to new AI tools to help them create AR effects—Like 3D facial and body assets—using text prompts, faster.
🤔 Why you should care: Snapchat has ramped up its AI capabilities over the past year, with the integration of a ChatGPT-powered AI chatbot and AI-powered features that allow subscribers to send AI-generated ‘snaps’ to friends, highlighting its commitment to using advanced AI to improve user experience.

Our Report: Meta has removed restrictions for election-related queries when using its Meta AI chatbot in India after the Indian election process ended earlier this month, but Google is still applying its restrictions.
🔑 Key Points:
In the run-up to the elections in India, both Meta and Google restricted their chatbot responses to election-related queries to prevent misinformation, directing people to external sites or Google Search
But just weeks after the elections ended, Meta removed these restrictions, so Meta AI users can now get answers from the chatbot about election results, political figures, and officeholders.
By contrast, Google has confirmed it will not be removing its restrictions on election-related queries, as part of a global policy, and will continue to point people to Google Search.
🤔 Why you should care: Although Google announced that it’s keeping its restrictions in place, as part of a global initiative to support elections that are happening all over the world this year, many believe it’s blocking election-related queries after multiple hallucination failings with its AI models this year.
Our Report: AI chip maker NVIDIA is officially the world’s most valuable company in the world, surpassing Apple (again) and Microsoft (again).
🔑 Key Points:
Just a week after Apple reclaimed its spot as the most valuable company in the world, NVIDIA has taken the title back, with a valuation of $3.34tn, which beats Microsoft’s $3.32tn and Apple’s £3.29tn.
This valuation is over 180% higher than it was at the start of the year and shares have increased more than ninefold since 2022 (when it first started reaping the benefits of the AI surge).
As big tech firms rush to advance their AI models, investors expect NVIDIA’s earnings to continue to grow, which will push the share price up, even further.
🤔 Why you should care: NVIDIA owns 70% of the AI chip market, which has encouraged professional funds and investors to pour capital into NVIDIA shares, pushing its share price up, faster than its revenue has grown.
