Our Report: Six months after he dissolved the ‘Responsible AI’ team, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has created a product advisory council that will provide guidance on Meta’s AI efforts.
🔑 Key Points:
The advisory council will advise Meta’s management team giving insights and recommendations on technological advancements, innovation, and strategic growth opportunities.
The group is composed of four executives: Patrick Collison (Stripe co-founder), Nat Friedman (ex-GitHub CEO), Tobi Lütke (Shopify CEO), and Charlie Songhurst (ex-Microsoft exec).
They haven’t been elected by shareholders (unlike the board of directors), will not be paid for their duties, will operate separately from the board, and will have no legal responsibilities.
🤔 Why you should care: The formation of this new advisory council comes after Zuckerberg announced plans to spend $35B on AI-focused products ($5B more than initially forecasted) and believes Meta “has the potential to become the leading AI company in the world,” even though its immediate efforts might not yield immediate results.

Our Report: Caller ID company Truecaller has partnered with Microsoft to use their new Azure AI Personal Voice technology (announced at the Microsoft Build conference this week) to allow users to create AI versions of their voices to answer calls, within their AI Assistant.
🔑 Key Points:
Truecallers AI Assistant currently engages with callers to determine the purpose of their call, and then gives users the option to either pick up or choose a pre-set digital voice response.
Now, users can record their voice using Microsoft's AI Personal Voice technology, which will process the recorded clip and generate a personalized AI version to use within the AI Assistant.
It’s currently available for users with Premium plans across the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Sweden, and Chile, with availability in more countries, coming.
🤔 Why you should care: Although Microsoft automatically adds watermarks to voices generated by its Personal Voice technology, and Truecaller has stopped people from customizing their initial greeting, to make it clear that the voice has been AI-generated, there are concerns that this new feature could exacerbate the mis-use of voice cloning technology.
Our Report: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed that disclaimers sould be shown if AI-generated content is used in political ads.
🔑 Key Points:
The proposal—designed to govern ads broadcast on TV and radio—requires political advertisers to make on-air and written disclosures if their TV or radio ads contain AI-generated content.
FCC Chairwoman, Jessica Rosenworcel, called for support for the proposal, saying that “consumers have a right to know when AI tools are being used in the political ads they see.”
Current US election law prevents campaigns from “fraudulently misrepresenting other candidates or political parties,” but whether this extends to AI-generated content is up for debate.
🤔 Why you should care: This comes as some online platforms, like Meta, have taken their own steps to address the use of AI in political content, and require full disclosure of AI-generated content in political ads, and have also banned users from using its in-house generative AI tools for political advertising.
Our Report: OpenAI has struck a “multi-year global partnership” deal with News Corp that will give it access to current and archived content from across all of News Corps publications.
🔑 Key Points:
OpenAI can display News Corp content in response to ChatGPT queries and use it to train its AI models, and News Corp will “share journalistic expertise” to ensure high-quality responses.
This means that OpenAI can use content from publications like The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Sunday Times, and others.
As well as improving ChatGPT responses, it’s expected that the partnership will give OpenAI over $250M over the next five years “for the use of OpenAI technology.”
🤔 Why you should care: OpenAI’s deal with News Corp follows a similar one they made with Reddit (announced just last week), and is the latest in a long line of content licensing deals with other news outlets—like The Associated Press—in an effort to prevent copyright infringement lawsuits, like the one they’re facing against the New York Times.
