FACT OF THE DAY
🤔 According to data from Salesforce, India has the highest AI adoption rate, with 73% of the population using it to complete tasks, compared with 45% of the US population, and just 29% of the UK population.
😑 Stocks were mixed to start the week with AMD out-performing the market. AMD is well-positioned to serve chips to customers for data centers that support large language models. Rosenblatt has set a target of $250 per share which has contributed to the rally. Learn more.
Our Report: Elon Musk’s AI start-up, xAI, has added image understanding capabilities to its AI chatbot—Grok 2—which allows paying users on Musk’s social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), to upload images and ask Grok questions about it.
🔑 Key Points:
With the new feature, Grok can establish what an image is and where it’s from, and give a detailed analysis, if requested, even understanding humorous elements and explaining jokes and memes.
Musk has caveated the feature as being in its “early stages” but has reassured users that it will “rapidly improve,” and shortly include the ability to interpret and understand documents, like PDFs.
This follows the recent release (in August) of Grok 2, which brought image-generation capabilities to the tool and came with a Musk-pledge of multimodal understanding in a future release.
🤔 Why you should care: Although just founded in March 2023, xAI has been trying to compete with well-established players—like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google—with Grok (which was released in November, last year), and while image understanding capabilities have been available on rival AI chatbots for a while, Musk highlighted that xAI is “getting done in months what took everyone else years,” but while Grok might be a strong contender in the AI chatbot market, Musk is struggling with his social media platform, X (reports says its current value is just ¼ of what it was when Musk bought it), facing criticism and falling user numbers, so this could be a way to entice users back to the platform.

Our Report: Meta is reportedly building an AI-powered search engine to reduce reliance on Google and Microsfot, and bring AI-powered search summaries to its Meta AI chatbot.
🔑 Key Points:
Currently, Meta AI connects with Google’s search engine and Microsoft's Bing search engine to answer user questions about recent news and events, providing links to the search queries on both platforms.
But Meta’s web crawler has ramped up activity over the last few months, building up a database of information to feed the search engine and rumors are, that a team has also been working on this feature for 8 months.
According to reports, its new AI search engine will “provide conversational answers”, via the Meta AI chatbot, which will be integrated into platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
🤔 Why you should care: This coincides, quite nicely, with Meta’s recently announced ‘multi-year’ partnership with the news outlet, Reuters, which will allow the chatbot to surface Reuter’s real-time news content in response to user questions, which many thought was a surprising move—considering Meta stepped back from showing news content on its platforms, over regulatory scrutiny and backlash—but perhaps not anymore.

Universal Music Group (UMG) has partnered with AI-music production start-up—Klay Vision—to build a commercial “large music model”, called KLayMM, to produce AI-generated music, ethically.
Launching in just a few months, KLayMM will work “in collaboration with the music industry and its creators,” and will “revolutionize the way people think about music” while making music AI “more than a short-lived gimmick.”
Details are scarce, but Klay has established they are working to develop a “global ecosystem to host AI-driven experiences and content,” and “will not compete with artists’ catalogs in traditional music services.”
Some of Apple’s AI features have finally launched to the public, in the iOS 18.1 release, giving users features such as notification summaries, AI-powered writing tools, and an updated Siri.
However, users on compatible devices (iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max or newer) will have to join a waitlist and wait anywhere from five minutes to several hours to access them.
Although users in the EU will have to wait until April next year to get these, they will also get the rest of Apple’s AI features, in the iOS 18.2 release (currently in beta), including the ChatGPT integration.
