FACT OF THE DAY
🤔 According to Springs, around 67,200 firms are working in generative AI, and although currently 25% of these firms are based in the US, this figure is expected to climb to 100,000 worldwide by the end of 2025.
🚗 AI stocks had a steady start to the week with many of the stocks consolidating at all-time highs. Tesla was the out-performer on the day rising close to 9% on the continued Trump-led rally. Elon Musk’s company is up 40% in a week after the new President was elected. In other news, Bitcoin is soaring, breaking the $90,000 mark yesterday, this surge is linked to Trump’s acceptance of the currency. Learn more.
Our Report: The non-for-profit AI advocacy group, Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI), has launched a public petition, asking for 10,000 signatures for recently re-elected US President Trump to make Elon Musk his special AI advisor.
🔑 Key Points:
As someone who’s “pioneered AI advancement and consistently sounded the alarm about AI’s potential risks,” the ARI believes “no one is better equipped to help the Trump Administration make America lead on AI.”
Critics worry that putting Musk in this position of power would be a conflict of interest—as he owns his own AI startup (xAI)---but the ARI argues that with “proper guardrails in place, Musk would be an invaluable asset.”
To demonstrate this, they highlighted Musk’s AI endeavors, including the co-founding of OpenAI, support for the AI safety bill, SB1047, and his calls for the temporary prohibition of certain AI development.
🤔 Why you should care: Musk has been vocal about his potential role within the Trump administration, creating a role for himself as Head of a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which would involve reorganizing the US regulatory system, and the ARI thinks that even in this capacity, he could influence the safe development of AI by protecting AI safety policy agencies from layoffs and budget cuts.

Our Report: Amazon is developing smart glasses for delivery drivers to shave seconds from the last 100 yards of each delivery.
🔑 Key Points:
The smart glasses—codenamed Amelia—will use Amazon’s Echo Frames technology to provide drivers with turn-by-turn directions on a small embedded screen, to guide drivers in and buildings.
The glasses will prevent the need for handheld GPS devices, but their battery, weight, and convincing drivers to wear the glasses—they might interfere with prescription glasses–are current roadblocks.
Half the cost of a delivery sits within the last mile, as drivers spend time and fuel trying to navigate new neighborhoods, which is why Amazon is focused on speeding up the last 100 yards of each delivery.
🤔 Why you should care: Amelia is part of Amazon’s strategy to increase efficiency and reduce delivery costs as it battles competition from Walmart and others, after it also recently revealed plans to develop a ‘Vision-Assisted Package Retrieval’ system to help drivers identify the right packages, among other efficiency initiatives.

Shailesh Prakash, VP of Google News, has resigned, amid increasing tensions between Google and news publishers over accusations that Google is taking web visits and ad revenue from them.
The reason for Prakash’s exit is unknown, but there have been tensions between him and Google, as he warned staff that Google News was due a “reckoning” after they hired too many senior execs.
Prakesh was at Google for just 2 years, after an 11-year stint at the Washington Post, where he was credited for shifting the paper toward digital content, which perhaps hints he has an alliance with news outlets.
