Our Report: Reddit and OpenAI have announced a partnership that will improve the user experience on both platforms, in an agreement similar to the one Reddit signed with Google, reportedly worth $60M.
🔑 Key Points:
OpenAI will get access to Reddit’s discussions, comments, and other user-generated content to train ChatGPT so it can give more nuanced, contextually aware, and relevant responses.
Reddit will use OpenAI’s AI models to build new features, including moderation tools and personalized recommendations, and they will also become its advertising partner.
OpenAI COO (Brad Lightcap) says this will “enrich the Reddit experience with AI-powered features” and Reddit CEO (Steve Huffman) said it aligns with their “connected internet” beliefs.
🤔 Why you should care: Reddit has made data licensing agreements a major part of its growth strategy, but it could face backlash from its users over data privacy, control, and how it's monetizing their data, although both sides have stated that “commercial use of Reddit data will require approval”.

Our Report: Sony Music Group (SMG) has sent letters to over 700 tech companies—Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI are thought to be among the 700 recipients—and music streaming services warning them not to use its music to train AI models, without permission.
🔑 Key Points:
The letter states that the companies must not use SMG’s content to “train, develop or commercialize AI systems” and any developer wishing to use its content, must get “explicit permission.”
Sony says its content has been used (without permission) by the recipients and wants to know which songs were used, how many copies were made, and how they were accessed.
Recipients have a deadline, and Sony will “enforce its copyright to the fullest extent permitted by law,” referring to the EU AI Law, which requires developers to disclose content used for AI training.
🤔 Why you should care: Sony wants to ensure its artists (including Harry Styles, Beyond, and Adele) are fairly compensated for their work, and protect its intellectual property, as copyright infringement becomes a growing issue in the music industry, with Univeral Music recently filing a lawsuit against Anthropic for infringing its copyright over the lyrics of hundred of its artist's songs.

Our Report: Following its I/O developer conference this week, which revealed some major AI updates, Google has now announced updated AI accessibility features, on Android devices, designed to help people with mobility, vision, or speech impairments.
🔑 Key Points:
Lookout (for users with eyesight issues) has a new ‘Find me’ feature: Users can select an item, move the camera around the room, and it will tell them where/how far away it is.
Look to Speak now lets users with writing/reading/language issues send customizable emojis—that represent a phrase—to help them with everyday communication.
Plus, Google Maps now shows accessibility information for more than 50M locations worldwide and allows users to filter to find places that have wheelchair accessibility.
🤔 Why you should care: Google's timely updates—on Global Accessibility Awareness Day—come after Microsoft and Apple also announced some new accessibility features, proving that tech companies are using AI to help people with accessibility needs.
Our Report: OpenAI has announced significant improvements to how ChatGPT (powered by the new GPT-4o) analyzes data.
🔑 Key Points:
ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users can now directly access files stored in Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive without uploading/downloading files, making the process more efficient.
ChatGPT can create tables from data, which users can then expand for more detail and also ask ChatGPT follow-up questions to get deeper insights.
Additionally, users can now also customize their charts by selecting different colors and asking ChatGPT for visualization suggestions to make sure they’re presentation-ready.
🤔 Why you should care: These updates will streamline data analysis processes, helping people with time-consuming admin tasks and providing them with in-depth analysis and visualization ideas.
