Anthropic revolutionizing AI with data tool?

Anthropic has released a new tool that connects AI models with multiple data sources to improve performance.

Currently, if a developer wants to connect their AI model and draw data from various sources—like business tools, CRM software, content repositories, or development environments—they have to create custom code.

“Every new data source requires its own custom implementation, making truly connected systems difficult to scale.”

To resolve this issue, Anthropic has launched an open-source tool and standard, called the Model Context Protocol (MCP) that, once integrated into an AI model, can “connect to data sources anywhere” thanks to a “standard protocol for sharing resources, tools, and prompts.”

Despite releasing a set of pre-built MCPs for popular data sources like Google Drive, Slack, and GitHub, they are “committed to building MCP as a collaborative, open-source project and ecosystem,” and “invite [developers] to build the future of context-aware AI together.”

This comes after OpenAI announced, last month, that it had built a similar data connector tool, called “Work with Apps”, but the difference is: It only connects to specific apps, it’s just for Mac ChatGPT users, and it’s still in testing.
