According to Apple CEO, Tim Cook, Apple’s new iPhone 16 (which was revealed at the Apple Glowtime event) was “designed for Apple Intelligence from the ground up,” because the new A18 chip that powers the device, also powers Apple Intelligence, while making the new model 30% faster than its predecessor, the iPhone 15.

Since Apple debuted its AI model, Apple Intelligence, at their worldwide developer conference (WWDC) in June, and demoed some of the features it would power, Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the new iPhone 16 series, hoping that Apple Intelligence would power many of the new updates.

While some features, including the integration of ChatGPT, were nowhere to be seen, Apple did reveal that the new iPhone would come with features that could surface and summarize emails and prioritize notifications. They also announced that Siri was now capable of understanding and responding to incomprehensible requests, and could understand on-screen user interactions, thanks to AI.

They also announced a new search feature (coming in the fall), that has been likened to Google Lens, which allows users to find answers to questions by pointing the new camera feature at an object, and Apple Intelligence will deliver an appropriate answer, bypassing traditional search methods. For example, if a user takes a photo of a restaurant, Apple Intelligence will automatically display the restaurant's opening hours. Or, if they take a photo of a leaflet, Apple Intelligence will automatically record the date, title, and other key information, so the user can refer back to it, at any time. Or if they take a picture of a bike, in the street, Apple Intelligence will connect to Google search, and deliver the bike make and model.
