Uber is launching an AI assistant to help its drivers transition to Electric Vehicles

During its Go-Get event in London, Uber revealed plans to launch an AI assistant—powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model—to US Uber drivers, in early 2025 (with plans to roll it out, internationally throughout 2025) to encourage drivers to transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs).

The AI assistant will only give tailored answers, based on driver location and local government incentives, to text-based questions about EVs, such as what EV to consider, driving ranges, nearest charging stations, and how to access EV incentives. But Uber has plans to increase its capabilities so drivers can have two-way vocal conversations with the assistant, to provide them with a safer, hands-free driving experience.

It can be accessed via the Uber driver app and will be continuously updated with new information to keep answers relevant and up-to-date.

The launch of the AI assistant is part of Ubers broader initiative to become a zero-emissions ride-sharing service by 2040. And, having invested $800M to help its drivers switch to EVs, its CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, knows that “Going electric is a big decision, and drivers have lots of questions,” so the assistant will be able to help by answering “every EV question under the sun,” making it easier for drivers to make the transition to an EV.
