FACT OF THE DAY
🤔 According to Statista, just 28% of newsrooms think creating content, is the most important use of AI, which correlates with research conducted by the University of Kansas, which identified that the public is less likely to trust news written by AI.
🎅 The market ripped higher to start the week, with the Santa rally in full swing. The Nasdaq tech index outperformed the S&P 500 by over 1% as investors continue to back tech companies. Tesla was the biggest champion of the day, rising over 6% as investors go early on the beneficial impact that Elon Musk’s relationship with Trump will have on Tesla’s business. Learn more.
Our Report: Seven months after it launched its AI video generator, Veo, Google has revealed an updated version—Veo 2—that can create video clips, with a crystal clear 4k resolution, up to 2 minutes in length, which is 6x more than OpenAI’s video generator model, Sora (which was released last week) can.
🔑 Key Points:
Veo 2 reportedly understands “real-world physics and the nuances of human movement and expression,” meaning it deals with “hallucinated” details, like fingers, better than other AI video generators (ie, Sora) can.
It also has improved camera controls, which allow users to specify lens type, camera angles, and depth of field, and although Google hasn’t specified how it was trained, Google-owned YouTube is a likely source.
Veo 2 is locked behind a waitlist, but Google is expanding access to it, this week and will work with users, artists, and producers to refine it, with plans to add it to Google’s product ecosystem, next year.
🤔 Why you should care: Google has admitted that Veo 2 is still a work in progress and acknowledged that it can’t “adhere to complex prompts over long horizons,” so “coherence and consistency are areas for growth,” and early demos have shown strange details like lifeless eyes and background issues (scroll down to ‘Recommended Resources to see a demo and let us know what you think).

Noiz summarizes YouTube videos with AI
Our Report: YouTube has announced a new feature that will allow YouTubers to specify if they do or don’t want their videos to be used by third parties for AI model training, giving them more control over how their content is used.
🔑 Key Points:
The feature will be off, by default, but if turned on, YouTubers can select which companies (from a list of 18, including Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Perplexity,) can use their content.
These companies were chosen “because they’re building AI models and are sensible choices to potentially partner with creators,” but users can also opt to allow all third parties to use their content, even if they’re not listed.
YouTube believes the feature is an “important first step in helping creators realize new value for their YouTube content in the AI era,” and could potentially get them compensation for their content.
🤔 Why you should care: While YouTube has made it clear that “unauthorized scraping remains prohibited,” nothing has been said about first-party AI training, meaning that Google is likely to continue to train its own AI models—like the above, Veo 2 model, for example—on YouTube content (in accordance with “existing agreements with creators”), while depriving its rivals.

On day 8 of “12 Days of OpenAI,” OpenAI announced that ChatGPT Search will now be available to all users, regardless of what plan they’re on, and also revealed some improvements.
The improved version is more like a traditional search engine and displays results with accompanying details like opening hours and ratings, and when searching for a location, users can see a map, with directions.
It surfaces links to websites, but then also provides users with added information about each option, making searches quicker, overall, and (paying) users can also use the Advanced Voice Mode to search.
Meta is adding three new AI-powered, real-time features to its Ray-Ban smart glasses (for US and Canadian owners who are on the early access program): Live AI, Live translations, and Shazam integration.
When users hear a song, Meta’s AI assistant can now tell them what it is (in real-time) and Live AI allows users to have 2-way conversations with Meta’s AI assistant, as it’s surveying its surroundings.
Live translation will translate conversations, in real-time, into English, Spanish, French, or Italian, with all three features marking the first time anyone has been able to incorporate real-time AI into smart glasses.
