🤝 Microsoft & OpenAI push ahead of Google with AI offerings
Read Time: 4 minutes
Our Report: Microsoft is taking the lead over Alphabet (Google) in capitalizing on generative AI by aligning with OpenAI and targeting large-scale clients—fuelling Alphabet's decline in the cloud-computing market share.
🔑 Key Points:
Microsoft's early bets on OpenAI and a focus on major clients have positioned it ahead of Alphabet in the race to monetize generative AI, with Microsoft's Azure platform witnessing major growth, and Alphabet's cloud unit growth dropping to a near three-year low.
CEO Satya Nadella revealed that nearly 40% of Fortune 500 companies are experimenting with Microsoft's "Copilot" (powered by OpenAI), and the launch of Microsoft's new AI service next month, priced at $30 per month, is anticipated to further boost the adoption of its AI offerings.
For Google, the anticipated launch of "Gemini," a series of large-language models, is expected to act as a significant growth catalyst for Alphabet in 2023 (provided it’s remarkably more useful than Bard).
🤨 Why you should care: The ongoing competition between Microsoft and Alphabet in the AI and cloud sectors highlights the rapid institutional adoption of AI and the pace of competition—which is unlikely to slow down any time soon (good news for us, better AI tech always).
Where were you when Amazon acquired Ring for $1B? Or when Google bought Nest for a cool $3.2B?
Hopefully, you were invested in those promising startups. But for those that missed out, the next groundbreaking Smart Home innovation has arrived 一 RYSE.
Their automated window shade tech is now launching in Best Buy stores, and is poised to dominate the fast-growing Smart Shades market. They’ve also just launched a new investment round and their share price has already grown 25% from their last round!
The Smart Shades race is on, and RYSE is in pole position due to their:
Unmatched Features: RYSE has the only retrofit design to motorize existing window shades, and can be seamlessly controlled by voice, smartphone, or schedule.
Smart Price: Priced at $169 vs. competitors’ pricing of up to $1,000 per window, RYSE is uniquely positioned to bring luxury window shades to every home and business.

“I want you to act as an IT Expert. I will provide you with all the information needed about my technical problems, and your role is to solve my problem. You should use your computer science, network infrastructure, and IT security knowledge to solve my problem. Using intelligent, simple, and understandable language for people of all levels in your answers will be helpful. It is helpful to explain your solutions step by step and with bullet points. Try to avoid too many technical details, but use them when necessary. I want you to reply with the solution, not write any explanations. My first problem is “my laptop gets an error with a blue screen.”

Venture capitalists Marc Andreessen (A16z) and John Doerr (Kleiner Perkins) will attend the second AI Insights Forum led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss AI innovation and safety.
The last forum held Mark Zuckerburg, Sundar Pichai, and Elon Musk (amongst many others) under one roof to discuss AI policy—we’re hopeful that collaboration between the brightest minds in tech will be instrumental in developing actionable AI policies.
On Oct 24, 2023, Microsoft reported earnings of $56.5B in sales during the three-month period ending September 30, 13% higher than the same period last year—a surpassing of expectations, primarily driven by AI advancements.
Notably, Microsoft shares rose 5%, with key growth observed in their AI-intensive intelligent cloud unit. Furthermore, Microsoft also announced (yesterday) that they would be investing $3.2B USD in Australia’s AI infrastructure and cloud computing industries.
In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, data workers have called on Congress to ensure their rights are protected in the AI sector, expressing concerns over surveillance, low wages, and exploitation in AI training roles.
The letter emphasized the importance of these workers in AI advancements and urged for policies to prevent tech-driven exploitation, and comes at a time just ahead of the 2nd AI Insights Forum (more details below).
