FACT OF THE DAY
🤔 The global market for AI music is expected to reach $3.1B by 2028, and according to Mastering the Mix, around 60% of musicians are already using AI in their work in some way, including composing, mastering, and generating artwork.
⬆️ AI and tech stocks posted consistent gains during Tuesday’s session, with the exception of AMD. Price is currently in a consolidation phase around the $130 support area. In other news, Microsoft stock reacted positively to the news that it plans to invest around $300B in AI by 2027. Learn more.
Our Report: OpenAI’s highly anticipated text-to-video model—Sora—which was first introduced in February, has been leaked by a group of Sora beta testers (who are reportedly called the “Sora PR Puppets”) in protest over “art washing” and being used for “unpaid R&D and PR.”
🔑 Key Points:
The testers published an AI video model on Hugging Face (a public repository of AI models) which was connected to the (private) Sora API, which enabled users to generate 10-second videos via text prompts.
After three hours, access was revoked (either by OpenAI or Hugging Face), but not before several users published their video clips—which bore OpenAI’s distinctive visual watermark—onto social platform, X.
Users who wrangled access said it was a faster, “turbo variant” with more style controls, but had fewer customization options, which comes Sora has reportedly suffered technical setbacks, pushing back the launch.
🤔 Why you should care: The Sora PR Puppets published a note, with the leaked Sora model, saying that Sora’s early access program is just an excuse for OpenAI to exploit artists, demanding unpaid testing and positive-only feedback (allegedly Sora’s early testers—which include red teamers and creative partners—have been pressured to spin a positive narrative around Sora) and believe that OpenAI’s content approval process is biased: “every output needs to be approved by the OpenAI team before sharing,” which is misleading.

Our Report: Uber is expanding beyond its rideshare, food delivery, freight transport, and courier services into a new market: Internalizing and outsourcing contractors for AI training and data labeling tasks.
🔑 Key Points:
Uber has a new division—Scaled Solutions—and is hiring contractors to handle ‘large-scale annotation tasks’ for Uber’s internal businesses, including its rideshare, food delivery, and freight units.
Describing this division as a team of “analysts, testers, and independent data operators,” these contractors are also being outsourced to companies like Pokémon Go developer, Niantic and self-driving vehicle firm, Aurora.
They're hiring contractors from the US, Canada, and India, and to attract a diverse talent pool, are also looking at hiring from Poland, and Nicaragua, where contractors will be paid on a per-task basis.
🤔 Why you should care: Although Uber’s expansion into AI data labeling might come as a plot twist to some, it’s a solid, strategic move, as the explosion of AI has rapidly increased the demand for data labeling services, with data labeling firms reaping the rewards: Take Scale AI, for example, they recently raised $1B at a valuation of $13.8B (Context: Throughout its 8-year history, they managed to raise just $600M).

Since losing its co-founder and CEO Mustafa Suleyman and most of its staff to Microsoft, earlier this year, AI start-up, Inflection AI, (maker of the chatbot, Pi) has announced it will no longer compete to build AI models.
New CEO—Sean White—maintains that they’ll still compete on the Enterprise front, after acquiring 3 AI start-ups over the last two months, to give them the talent and tools Enterprise customers, using AI models, need.
“I am not going to compete with a company that is trying to build the next 100,000-GPU system,” instead, White wants to think practically about how it can equip Enterprises with the AI tools they need.
President-elect, Donald Trump, is thinking about adding an ‘AI czar’ to his administration—who would oversee AI federal policies and the government use of AI—and despite early rumors, it’s unlikely to be Musk.
Musk (who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency) is, however, expected to have significant input into who gets the job, and the role could be combined with a “crypto czar” role, creating a wider tech czar position.
The AI czar will not need Senate confirmation for the role, which means they can work on Trump’s goals quickly, which could be overturning Biden's AI Executive Order (as he’s previously stated, it stifles innovation).
